Are you a n00b at Internet slang?

These references can help parents interpret their children who chat online.

If you don't know what a n00b is, then your answer is yes. The use of symbols, acronyms, and abbreviation, known as chat code, make it difficult for Internet newcomers to keep up with online conversations. BTW (by the way), n00b is a derogatory term for newbie, JSYK (just so you know).

To become familiar with this new slang, visit the encyclopedia entries for chat code and leetspeak. Leetspeak, a type of chat code, is the use of unusual combinations of letters and numbers to spell out words. The encyclopedia provides some good examples.

Children and teens are quick to learn chat code, so parents should become familiar with it to be aware of their children’s online activities.
