Cache

Temporary data storage area on your computer

A cache (pronounced cash) is a temporary storage place for data on your computer that can be accessed quickly. Caches are used to increase the speed of computer operations. For example, data from a hard disk may be temporarily stored in the cache. When these data are needed, the processor first searches for them in the cache, then the main memory, and finally the hard disk. This saves a lot of time and traffic on the network. Caches are also used to store the most recent Web pages you have visited so your computer doesn't have to reload them each time you visit them.
