The Information Networking Institute (INI) was established by Carnegie Mellon in 1989 as the nation’s first research and education center devoted to information networking. It is the educational partner of Carnegie Mellon CyLab. Carnegie Mellon CyLab, with the INI as its educational partner, has been designated by the National Security Agency as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. Top students from around the world attend the INI, seeking the broadened perspective and enriched skill sets necessary to design solutions, manage teams and lead enterprises in today’s global networked information technology marketplace.
The INI teaching faculty is drawn from:
- The College of Engineering (Electrical and Computer Engineering, Engineering and Public Policy)
- The School of Computer Science
- The Tepper School of Business
- The Heinz School of Public Policy and Management
- CERT Coordination Center
The INI offers professional graduate degrees in information networking, information security, and information technology that integrate technologies, economics, and policies of secure communication networks. Programs are offered from the university’s main campus in Pittsburgh and from international locations.
