IP Address

An IP address is a number used to identify a computer or other device, like a router, on the Internet. Each such device has its own unique IP address, and the address is used like a phone number to send information to a particular device.

Each IP address is a 32-bit string written as four numbers (ranging from 0 to 255) separated by periods. For example, 128.2.214.69 might be an IP address. If the address is the same every time the device connects to the Internet, it is called a static IP address. If a different address is assigned to a device each time it connects to the Internet, it is called a dynamic IP address.
