Hanging out on Internet bulletin boards or chat rooms without posting
Lurking is when somebody hangs out on Internet bulletin boards, chat rooms and Usenet groups (an Internet discussion system) without posting. Lurking can be a good way to learn about the topics being discussed and figure out the rules of a bulletin board before posting. However, lurkers in chat rooms may eavesdrop on your child's personal conversations without her ever knowing they are there.

- Do not allow your child to give out personal information on the Internet: Make sure that your child understands that her online conversations are not private. Information like her name, location, school, and, age could be picked up by others and used to track her down.
